The Clay Minerals Society also offers a reduced student membership rate of $15.00, entitling students to a subscription to Clays and Clay Minerals, one of the leading journals in the field of clay science and a useful forum for discussion of natural zeolites.
The Mineralogical Society of America also biannually awards a $3500 grant for research in crystallography. The award selection will be based on the qualifications of the applicant, the quality, innovativeness, and scientific significance of the proposed research, and the likelihood of success of the project. There are no restrictions on how the grant funds may be spent, as long as they are used in support of research. The only restrictions on eligibility for the grant are that the applicant must have reached his or her 25th birthday but not yet have reached his or her 36th birthday on the date the grant is awarded, and that the person is not a MSA Councilor.
Application forms for either grant may be obtained from the MSA worldwide web home page, http://www.minsocam.org, or from Dr. J. Alex Speer, MSA Business Office, 1015 Eighteenth St., NW, Suite 601, Washington, DC, 20036-5274, USA (phone: 202-775-4344, fax: 202-775-0018, e-mail: j_a_speer@minsocam.org).
